Phillip E. Johnson is a partner in the law firm Johnson & Webbert, LLP, with offices in Augusta, Maine.  He represents individual and corporate clients on matters involving lawyer professional responsibility and corporate compliance in this age of close scrutinity of the legal profession and the business community.

With respect to lawyer professional responsibility, he counsels clients on matters of legal ethics and legal malpractice.  He handles lawyer discipline cases before the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar and legal malpractice cases before the courts.  He serves as an expert consultant on ethics and malpractice issues, and he has testified as an expert witness on legal ethics and malpractice issues in both state and federal court.

On corporate compliance, he helps companies design compliance programs and codes of conduct in order to avoid violations of the law that could lead to criminal prosecution, civil damage awards and loss of business reputation.  He also assists businesses in internal investigations of potential criminal acts, conflicts of interest, sexual harassment claims and other potential violations of law or code of conduct.

He has practiced law since 1975 and has authored over 80 articles on professional responsibility issues.  He has served on the Maine Professional Ethics Commission since 2000 and was appointed its Chair effective January 1, 2003.  He still holds that position today.
